Jinxu Xiahou
Since his success at the Bertelsmann Stiftung's renowned international singing competition “Neue Stimme” in Gütersloh in 2011, Jinxu Xiahou has been a regular guest at some of the most important opera stages in the world, including the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera and La Scala in Milan.
In the 2024/25 season he will make his house debut at the Baltic Opera in Gdansk as Rodolfo in a new production of Giacomo Puccini's La bohème and will return to the Opera im Steinbruch as the helmsman in Richard Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. With the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under Long Yu he sings Duca di Mantua in Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, and at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing he takes part in a Puccini gala and gives a recital with works by Italian composers. For New Year 2025 he will sing in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra under Yi Huang.
In 2023/24, Jinxu Xiahou returned to the Teatro alla Scala as Conte di Lerma in Verdi's Don Carlo, Beppe in Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci and Pong in Puccini's Turandot. On the concert stage he had great success with an Italian opera gala with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra and with Verdi's Messa da Requiem with the Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire under Sascha Goetzel.
Recent highlights include Loris Ipanov in Umberto Giordano's Fedora and Malcolm in a new production of Verdi's Macbeth, both at La Scala, his debut as Don José in Georges Bizet's Carmen with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, his house debuts at the Opéra national de Paris as Pang in the new production of Puccini's Turandot under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel and at La Scala in Milan as Tebaldo in Vincenzo Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Ismaele in Verdi's Nabucco at the Opera in the Quarry in St. Margarethen.
From 2012 to 2020, Jinxu Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni, Malcolm and Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth, Fenton in Verdi's Falstaff, singer in Richard Strauss' The Knight of the Rose, Italian singer in Strauss' Capriccio, voice of a young sailor in Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, Cassio and Rodrigo in Verdi's Otello, Ismaele and Abdallo in Verdi's Nabucco and other lyrical roles Tenor repertoires.
Jinxu Xiahou was born in 1990 in East China's Shandong Province. The tenor began studying at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 2008. He made his European debut in Zurich in 2010. Since 2015 he has studied with Florian Boesch at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and in 2017 he made his debut at the Vienna Musikverein with a recital.
