Liang Li

The bass Liang Li is an internationally sought-after opera and concert singer who sings the major roles in his field on all major stages and who regularly collaborates with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle, Myung-Whun Chung, Sir Donald Runnicles, Tomás Netopil, Sylvain Cambreling, Jonathan Nott and Manfred Honeck.

Recent engagements include Zaccaria in Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco at the Düsseldorf Opera, Fasolt in Richard Wagner's The Rhinegold in a concert performance with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi, Fiesco in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Landgraf in Wagner's Tannhäuser at the Opéra de Lyon and Timur in Puccini's Turandot in Amsterdam and Madrid.
Other highlights of past seasons include Ramfis in Verdi's Aida at the Grand Théatre Génève, Oroveso in Vincenzo Bellini's Norma at the Hamburg State Opera and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Orchestra della Scala di Milano under Zubin Mehta. Guest appearances have taken Liang Li repeatedly to the festival in Baden-Baden, including as Hunding in Wagner's The Valkyrie under Jonathan Nott, as Ferrando in Verdi's Il trovatore and as Commander in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Paris, as Gurnemanz in Wagner's Parsifal at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as Banco in Verdi's Macbeth at the Semperoper Dresden and as King Marke in Wagner's Tristan and Isolde Zubin Mehta to Valencia.
As a concert singer, he regularly appears at major international festivals, where he sings a repertoire ranging from the Requiem settings by Mozart and Verdi to Mahler's Eighth Symphony and Robert Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust.
Future projects include his return to the NCPA in Beijing, this time as Hunding in Wagner's The Valkyrie directed by Katharina Wagner, his debut in St. Margarethen as Daland in Wagner's The Flying Dutchman and his return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Oper Amsterdam.
For his outstanding achievements at the Stuttgart State Opera, where Liang Li was a member of the ensemble for ten years, he was awarded the title “Chamber Singer of the Stuttgart State Opera” in 2016.
The Chinese bass studied singing at the conservatory in Tianjin and Beijing. He is a winner of numerous singing competitions, including the International ARD Music Competition in Munich, the Bertelsmann Foundation's “New Voices” competition and the International Opera Competition in Shizuoka in Japan.
