Michaele Taborelli

The Italian set designer Michele Taborelli was born in Miland, first studied piano at the Conservatorio G. Cantelli and then completed architecture studies at the Accademia di Architettura under Mario Botta. While he was still a student, he developed a particular interest in stage designs and focused on the correlation between sound and space.

After his first experiences in the field of cinema with the Italian director Marco Bellocchio, he began working for several opera houses throughout Europe, including: the Bavarian State Opera, the Stuttgart State Theatre, De Nationale Opera, the Opéra national de Paris, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Graz Opera in collaboration with set designers such as Paolo Fantin, Małgorzata Szczęśniak, Jens Kilian, Christof Hetzer, Momme Hinrichs and directors such as Damiano Michieletto, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Lotte de Beer, Jossi Wieler, Pierre Audi. He has a close artistic collaboration with the director Silvia Costa, with whom he has, among other things, collaborated as a set designer for Julie at the Opéra national de Lorraine, L’arche de Noé in Lyon and L’Orfeo at the Hanover State Opera. In addition to his work in the theatre sector, he is involved in art direction, exhibition and production design.
